DJI, the world’s largest drone manufacturer, today introduced the DJI Dock 2, an advanced “Drone in a Box” (DIAB) solution designed to enhance automated drone operations across a variety of sectors. Featuring the newly developed DJI Matrice 3D/3TD drones, DJI Dock 2 promises a compact, efficient, and versatile solution for enterprises looking to optimize operations such as surveying, inspections, asset management, and security through automated aerial technology.
According to a DJI press release, DJI Dock 2 is a game-changer in terms of its lightweight design, ease of installation, and deployment. It is 75% smaller and 68% lighter than its predecessor, facilitating easy transportation and installation by just two individuals. DJI emphasizes its compatibility with DJI FlightHub 2, allowing for comprehensive management and monitoring of automated aerial missions through cloud-based operations.
Christina Zhang, Senior Director of Corporate Strategy at DJI, stated, “Over the years, DJI’s industrial-grade drones have supported everyday heroes worldwide in saving lives, improving worker safety, and conserving ecosystems amid climate changes. Today, we are addressing the need for a cost-effective automated aerial solution that can efficiently complete complex and dangerous jobs from a safe distance with DJI Dock 2.”
Innovative Features and Efficiency
DJI Dock 2’s design boasts significant enhancements, including superior operational capabilities and intelligent cloud-based functions. It supports high-precision 3D modeling from collected flight data, enabling drones to automatically adjust camera angles for consistent area coverage in subsequent flights. This automation not only increases worker safety but also operational efficiency.
The device’s efficient site evaluation process reduces the time required for site selection to 12 minutes or less, a significant improvement from the previous five hours. Its robust build allows for reliable operation in extreme weather conditions, with an IP55 rating for dust and water resistance. Additionally, DJI Dock 2 offers streamlined remote operation capabilities, with internal and external fisheye lenses providing real-time environmental monitoring.
High-precision aerial missions with new DJI Matrice 3D/3TD
An all-new DJI Matrice 3D/3TD drone is designed to meet the high-standard operational requirements for DJI Dock 2. Both drones feature integrated RTK antennas, omnidirectional obstacle sensing, and automatic obstacle bypass, enhancing the success rate of each automated flight task. They also boast a 50-minute maximum flight time, a 6-mile operating radius, an IP54 rating for wind and dust, and can recharge for 400 cycles.
- Matrice 3D is designed for automated mapping and surveying missions. It features a tele camera (1/2-inch CMOS, 162mm format equivalent, 12MP of effective pixels) and a wide camera (4/3 CMOS, 24mm format equivalent, 20 MP of effective pixels) with a mechanical shutter, meeting the needs for 1:500 high-precision mapping tasks.
- Matrice 3TD is designed for security and inspection operations. It features the same tele camera as the Matrice 3D but a different wide camera (1/1.32-inch CMOS, 24mm format equivalent, 48MP of effective pixels). It also includes an additional infrared camera (40mm format equivalent, 640×512 resolution for normal mode and 1280×1024 resolution for UHR infrared image mode, 28x digital zoom) that can depict both visible light and thermal images.
Dock Solutions: A Catalyst for Commercial Drone Operations at Scale
DJI Dock 2’s introduction underscores the growing importance of DIAB and dock solutions in enabling remote operations. These solutions are pivotal in industrial and military settings, where they facilitate remote monitoring, security, and inspection applications. DIAB solutions not only enhance safety and operational efficiency: in commercial contexts, solutions such as DJI Dock 2 revolutionize the cost structure for regular drone operations at scale by reducing the number of staff needed, offering a sustainable model for widespread automated drone deployment.
DJI Dock 2, along with the DJI Matrice 3D and 3TD drones, is now available for reservation through authorized DJI Enterprise dealers. This launch not only highlights DJI’s continuous innovation in drone technology but also its commitment to providing flexible, efficient, and reliable solutions for enterprise users worldwide. As industries continue to embrace automated solutions for their operational needs, DJI Dock 2 represents a significant step forward in the evolution of drone technology and its application in various sectors.
