Aloft Technologies, Inc., a pioneer in drone fleet and airspace management, has unveiled its latest milestone with the launch of Air Aware, a cutting-edge advancement in airspace situational awareness. This application provides comprehensive real-time insights before, during, and after drone operations, effectively replacing the B4UFLY app.
Founded on December 17th in 2015, commemorating the anniversary of powered flight by the Wright brothers in Kitty Hawk, NC, Aloft Technologies strategically chose that date to introduce Air Aware. This launch aligns with the historical trend of welcoming numerous new drone pilots to the Aloft platform post-holidays.
Jon Hegranes, Founder & CEO of Aloft, emphasized the significance of Air Aware, stating, “Airspace safety isn’t simply about the moments before takeoff anymore. With Air Aware, we’re redefining situational awareness to encompass the entire flight lifecycle. This is the evolution of our commitment to advancing drone safety and our collective march to the true integration of drones into the national airspace system.”
Aloft’s New Product: Air Aware
Since partnering with the FAA to power their B4UFLY application in 2019, Aloft has facilitated over 30 million airspace requests. This wealth of experience and scale is now integrated into the new Air Aware application, designed to provide unparalleled support to drone pilots, enhancing safety and compliance with dynamic, real-time data. The application incorporates Aloft’s Notify & Fly capabilities, which have been voluntarily utilized by pilots hundreds of thousands of times to share their flight activity with fellow airspace users and stakeholders.
In a strategic partnership with the Pilot Institute, an FAA-approved TRUST provider, Air Aware integrates cutting-edge educational content. Greg Reverdiau, co-founder of Pilot Institute, expressed, “Our partnership with Aloft on Air Aware will equip drone pilots with the knowledge and tools they need to fly safely.”
Highlighting Aloft’s commitment to innovation, Air Aware becomes the focal point for future updates and developments, signaling the conclusion of new updates for the B4UFLY application. This shift ensures users have access to the most advanced tools in the industry. Air Aware is not merely a next-generation replacement for B4UFLY; it’s a platform that aims to evolve with the collaborative input of the Aloft and Pilot Institute communities.
Aloft, formerly known as Kittyhawk, has been a longstanding player in airspace intelligence. Co-founders Josh Ziering and Jon Hegranes continue to drive the company’s success, consistently adding new functionality and integrations to the Aloft platform, including deep linking APIs.
To contribute to the evolution of Air Aware, the Aloft team invites users to provide feedback and input on new features and the direction of the platform through a survey, available here.
Air Aware is available for download on the iOS App Store and Google Play Store, or it can be accessed on the web from Aloft.
