Sony has announced that the latest version of its Camera Remote Software Development Kit (SDK) allows users to control Sony’s cameras remotely from a computer, which includes changing the camera settings. This new release of Camera Remote SDK lets software developers design custom applications to satisfy business requirements, with the integration of Sony’s equipment for size-critical drone and speed camera systems, along with additional medical, education, government, and e-commerce applications.

The free new version 1.08 improves workflow efficiency within e-commerce, industrial, and mapping and surveying applications, offering faster processing speeds for setting, shooting, and transferring files. Additional support for shutter triggers by electrical signal enhances image capture accuracy for photogrammetry and road traffic management use cases. Version 1.08 offers a host of new features that broaden its range of potential applications. It is also compatible with the ZV-E1 full-frame interchangeable lens camera.

“With each SDK release, we are integrating learnings from customers and expanding the functionality and range of applications”, says Christie Patel, B2B Marketing, Sony. “The SDK means that our cameras are now being used in more and more industrial and B2B applications, ranging from Photogrammetry or medical companies to inspection, and including e-Commerce.”

Major updates provided by the new version include improved processing speed, support for shutter trigger by electrical signal and remote power on/off, support for remote menu settings for video, including picture profile settings and timecode, and an  “overheating warning” status notification that sees the camera notify remote users of any significant increase in temperature.

The Camera Remote SDK can be utilized to control several cameras in the Sony camera range including Cinema Line cameras. The complete list of compatible cameras is available here.
