Teledyne Acquires FLIR: Teledyne FLIR Thermal Imaging Continues

teledyne acquires FLIR

Teledyne acquires FLIR for $8.2 billion, and rebrands FLIR’s thermal imaging solutions as Teledyne FLIR.

Teledyne Technologies (NASDAQ: TDY) announced just this week that the acquisition of FLIR (NASDAQ: FLIR) was completed, giving the details of the transaction in a press release and providing media sources with the new Teledyne FLIR logo.

In the drone industry, FLIR has taken a major position as a provider of thermal imaging sensors and solutions.  FLIR’s thermal imaging sensors have become critical tools for public safety, search and rescue, inspections, and more.  In recent years, FLIR expanded into drone hardware, acquiring drone manufacturers Aeryon and Altavian, which enabled FLIR to offer complete solutions to defense and commercial customers.

FLIR’s drone team contributed significantly to the drone industry.  Randall Warnas (now CEO of Autel Robotics) and Brett Kanda (now VP of Sales and Marketing at BRINC Drones) were well-known ambassadors for FLIR sensors, hosted open forums for the drone industry throughout the pandemic, and drove educational and outreach efforts to help elevate the commercial drone industry.

FLIR’s business, including the drone business will now be led by Teledyne executive Edwin Roks, says the Teledyn press release.

Simultaneously, Teledyne announced the following executive promotions, effective today. Edwin Roks, current Vice President of Teledyne and President of Teledyne’s Digital Imaging Segment, is now Executive Vice President of Teledyne. Edwin will continue to serve as President of Teledyne’s Digital Imaging Segment, which now includes Teledyne FLIR. In addition, Todd Booth is promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for the acquired Teledyne FLIR group of businesses.

“We appreciate the support from our stockholders, and I am delighted to welcome FLIR to the Teledyne family,” said Robert Mehrabian, Executive Chairman of Teledyne. “As a combined company, Teledyne FLIR will uniquely provide a full spectrum of imaging technologies and products spanning X-ray through infrared and from components to complete imaging systems. Teledyne FLIR will also provide a complete range of unmanned systems and imaging payload across all domains ranging from deep sea to deep space. Finally, I want to congratulate Edwin and Todd, whose promotions are very well deserved.”
