One of Europe’s largest logistics/transport companies is looking to Canada’s top drone delivery firm to take their success to a new altitude.

Toronto-based Drone Delivery Canada is partnering with DSV Panalpina A/S to provide a drone-based delivery platform to the Danish conglomerate’s new Canadian air and sea division.

In collaboration with sales partner Air Canada, DDC will deploy the DroneSpot takeoff/landing zone solution to launch the first of multiple routes, as well other infrastructure at DSV sites.

With a carrying capacity of up to 10 pounds, DDC’s Sparrow cargo drone will fly a defined route within DSV’s site in Milton, Ont. as allowed by Transport Canada’s authorization rules.

DDC will monitor the flights from a new operations center in Vaughn, Ont. and officials expect to add 20 or more routes next year.

“DSV is a global leader in the logistics space and a perfect fit as a scalable customer for us,” DDC CEO Michael Zahra said.

“DSV Canada is dedicated to delivering innovative and integrated supply chain solutions,” DSV Air & Sea Canada Managing Director Martin Roos.

“With a global view in mind, our focus is on continuously optimizing our local partners’ supply chains. That means, a long-term vision that opens up new markets and service offerings.  Our strong partnership with Air Canada Cargo and now DDC will offer our current and potential partners best-in-class solutions and service excellence that is scalable and future-proof.  We have looked to overcome some of today’s challenges by investing in tomorrow’s opportunities, and we are ready for the next steps.”

In February, DDC unveiled its largest and longest-range drone, the Condor. Under development over the past year, the single-rotor vehicle offers a payload of 400 pounds and can travel up to 124 miles on a tank of gas.

Last year, DDC announced a partnership with Toyota Tsusho Canada – a subsidiary of the well-known Toyota Group. The effort will see TTCI participate with DDC’s commercial pilot program in Canada for flight testing and development of international markets for drone delivery.
