RAI Amsterdam world’s drones knowledge center in December
Drones, single-person helicopters, and flying cars: how will these new technologies shape the future of urban air mobility in European cities? This will be the central theme of Amsterdam Drone Week, scheduled to take place 4 to 6 (incl.) December in RAI Amsterdam.
This global ‘meeting of minds’ will host a European roundtable discussion participated by mayors from European cities, who will share their thoughts on the future role of “Urban Air Mobility” in making their cities smarter, greener, and more liveable. In addition, the so-called U-space plan will be presented during the High Level Conference on Drones organised by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency(EASA), which is responsible for aviation safety. The plan deals with how the airspace will be structured and regulated in future and explains how drone operations can be scaled up with the help of the new regulations.
RAI Amsterdam welcomes leading global players
The event will be opened by Minister of Infrastructure & Water Cora van Nieuwenhuizen. In addition to the Ministry of Infrastructure & Water and the European Commission, various other players are partners to the event including Airbus, Boeing and KPN. The American company AirMap and CANSO will also be present. AirMap focuses on safety systems for drone traffic, and CANSO is the international organisation representing air traffic management bodies. One of the issues focused on by these players is how to facilitate autonomous flights in managed airspace.
‘Urban Air Mobility introduces enormous opportunities for creating faster, cleaner, and safer integrated transport systems, and we are already seeing this happening very rapidly in almost all sectors of society’, says Paul Riemens, CEO of RAI Amsterdam and a driving force behind the event. ‘The challenge is to connect urban air mobility infrastructure and technology with the world of aviation. Amsterdam Drone Week will show us where we now stand and what the future holds in store for us. We are very proud that RAI Amsterdam will be welcoming the leading global players in this field during this event.’
