Boston is DRONELIFE’s hometown – so we can’t wait for this new drone festival!

The following is a guest post by talented Part 107 Pilot and author, Kara Murphy.

One East Coast drone film festival isn’t enough, so another is making its debut in Boston this November. The inaugural Boston Drone Film Festival (BOSDFF) is set to take place the weekend of November 15th. BOSDFF, like New York City Drone Film Festival, is an international competition that aims to give recognition to the achievements of drone filmmakers and photographers.

BOSDFF, which will include three panel discussions, eight workshops, and two demonstrations, was founded by Jovan Tanasijevic. Tanasijevic is co-founder and director at Above Summit, one of the first production studios specializing in drone cinematography to come out of New England. Their team of drone pilots, videographers, photographers, and editors is responsible for content that has appeared in programs on networks such as AMC, NBC, and Netflix, along with films/TV series including The Society, NOS4A2, and Knives Out.

Submissions are open until September 15th for the following categories:

Film:

Photography:

360°:

The winner of each category will be awarded a prize from BOSDFF’s sponsors. There will be one grand prize winner, overall.

Entries will be judged by a panel of sixteen leading creative minds including the CEOs of Women and Drones plus Women Who Drone, VICE media’s Chief of Staff, FPV pilot Zoe Stumbaugh, professional drone racer Paul Nurkkala, and accomplished filmmaker Ambika Lee. Panels will feature respected industry experts including the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Sam Nelson and Vaughn College adjunct professor/former FAA Counsel Loretta Alkalay.

All nominees will be notified on October 16th. Besides a screening of all final entries, the festival will also feature ample networking opportunities. Tickets can be purchased in advance, here. The tentative schedule is below. See you in November.
