InterDrone Announces FAA Administrator as Keynote

Emerald Expositions, producers of one of the largest drone conferences in the world, have announced that Daniel K. Elwell, acting administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration, will give the Grand Opening Keynote address at InterDrone, September 5 at 10:00 am. InterDrone is being held September 5-7 at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas this year.

It’s the third year that an FAA Admin has spoken at the conference.  That’s a sign both of the significant role that regulations play at this point in the growth of the drone industry, and of the FAA’s efforts to collaborate with industry and be more transparent on their progress.  During former FAA Administrator Michael Huerta’s tenure, the administrator became a familiar face at drone conferences and symposiums.  Huerta frequently announced major developments – such as the formation of the Drone Advisory Committee – at conference keynote speeches, as well as providing updates on major milestones.  The conferences also provided attendees with an opportunity to meet industry figures involved with the FAA’s regulatory committees.

Industry followers look forward to hearing what acting administrator Elwell will say about current movement in drone regulations.  With the current FAA Reauthorization extension set to expire at the end of September and other major proposals on the table, there should be a lot to talk about.

“As acting administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration, Mr. Elwell is responsible for the safety and efficiency of the largest aerospace system in the world, overseeing a $16.4 billion-dollar budget, and over 47,000 employees,” says the Emerald Expositions release. “The FAA is responsible for setting the legal requirements for the use of commercial drones in the United States.”

“We are thrilled to have the admin of the FAA do the Grand Opening Keynote at InterDrone for the third year in a row,” said Katie Flash, Content Director, InterDrone, adding, “The annual show is where the commercial drone space gathers and is a great platform to learn about each vertical in the industry.”
