DroneShield Takes Checkered Flag in NASCAR Counter-drone Race

Australian counter-drone firm DroneShield is taking the pole position in the world of NASCAR in the race to protect racing events from rogue drones.

DroneShield provided anti-drone protection for the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series at Texas Motor Speedway.

A law-enforcement task force comprised of the Texas State Department of Public Safety, the Denton County Sheriff, the Fort Worth Police Department, the Texas Forest Service, and the Texas Rangers used the company’s products – DroneSentinel, DroneSentry and DroneGun – to keep unauthorized drones from flying over the high-stakes NASCAR race series.

DroneGun discharges radio signals that can take control of a rogue drone, bringing the UAV to the gun user and disabling video capabilities. DroneSentinel is a multi-prone detection product designed to locate rogue drones. DroneSentry detects and neutralizes unmanned aerial bandits using jamming technology.

“The 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series is a high security profile event, designated code orange by the relevant U.S. federal government agencies,” Oleg Vornik, DroneShield’s Managing Director and CEO, said.

Vornik added:

“We are proud to be able to assist a high-profile event like this. Every NASCAR event is complex, and the selection of DroneShield as the sole provider of counter-drone products for the aerial protection of NASCAR is a testament to the quality and capability of our product suite. We also believe that this is significant for DroneShield in that this is the first known live operational use of all three of our key products – DroneSentinel, DroneSentry and DroneGun – by U.S. law enforcement.”

“We selected DroneShield’s products for drone security at the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series following extensive considerations of the effectiveness, features and costs of the various alternatives,” Officer Eric Skinner of Fort Worth Police said. “We are grateful to DroneShield for providing our numerous attendees and us as the organizers with peace of mind in the aerial domain.”

Currently, DroneShield provides detection coverage for the Boston Marathon. The company also scored a major European victory last year, protecting the Davos Economic Forum in Switzerland.

A recent study predicts the drone mitigation (or anti-drone) market will to grow to a billion-dollar industry within six years with predicted compound annual growth rate of 23.89 percent across 2017-22.
