The two organizations have announce a partnership to “promote Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) learning in STEAM fields (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) providing students with a path for jobs in the rapidly growing commercial drone industry,” says USI. “The USI STEAM education program is tailored toward high schools and colleges, and provides teacher credentialing, course materials, and drones, supplied by DJI, to educational institutions throughout the United States.”
USI offers drone pilot credentialing in addition to the FAA’s Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate. Students completing at least 155 classroom hours in their program can take an exam to receive a “Small UAS Safety Certification™.” The additional certification is designed to demonstrate a high level of proficiency and expertise in the field.

As the commercial drone industry expands, educators focused on STEAM curriculum are including drones at an increasing rate, in the hopes of providing a lucrative career path for young aviation enthusiasts.
