Drones have gone way past the point of being only toys for geeks and techies.  While applications for commercial drones continue to expand and drone technology proves itself a major force in industry, the recreational drone industry is also moving mainstream.  Even Martha Stewart loves her drone.

The maven of beautiful homes, gardens, and lifestyle recently teamed with DJI to learn more about drones and aerial photography around the home.

Martha is not a drone newbie.  She first wrote about a drone she received for her birthday back in 2014.  And now, right below a blog post on her (extensive, it seems) collection of begonias, Stewart  writes about her lesson with DJI experts on flying the Mavic Pro. “Many of you often comment on how much you enjoy seeing photos of my Bedford, New York farm – I know you’ll love these beautiful aerial views,” writes Martha. “Recently, a wonderful team from DJI, a market leader in easy-to-fly drones and aerial photography systems, came to the farm with a new model drone called the Mavic Pro. I have flown several different drones over the years, but none as cutting-edge as this one.”

DJI pilots apparently joined Martha to give her a training session on the Mavic Pro and the Osmo – DJI’s camcorder. “During the visit, I learned how to take off, navigate, record video, shoot photos and land the device,” says Stewart. “It was so much fun to fly and so easy to control despite the day’s windy winter weather. I can’t wait to take it out again and fly it with my grandchildren.”

While the event was another piece of marketing genius by DJI, it demonstrates how far drones have moved into the mainstream.  Accompanied by her signature perfect, stunning photographs showcasing a flawless property and an elegant Stewart, the homemaking expert provides some details about the drone and, without making it seem too easy, makes it look like flying a drone might be something fun.
