Sentera Unveils New Toolbox for Agriculture Drones

Drone and data management provider Sentera is harvesting another software solution for the agriculture drone sector.

The Minnesota-based company on Monday announced the release of NDVI Toolbox for the AgVault software platform, describing the suite as “a set of tools for customizable Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) data that give growers and agronomists significant insight into field and crop health, today and throughout the season.”

The release of the toolbox comes just one week after Sentera announced the launch of AgVault 2.0, PC/mobile app platform that offers auto-synch functions and can connect with other precision agriculture sensors and analysis tools. AgVault empowers farmers to analyze drone-fueled imagery from over-field missions to better understand crop health. The release of NDVI Toolbox adds an augmented level of analysis to AgVault.

With most precision analysis tools, crop data displays as colors representing crop health factors – green for healthy, for example. The NDVI Toolbox goes beyond a general color display and builds a deeper degree of flexible, actionable data sets, allowing users to view and analyze more precise color variation to the granular level. Think of it as zooming past the forest and into the trees.

“Until now, you needed to choose between viewing data tailored for NDVI progression over time, or tailored for NDVI contrast around a single flight — but, you couldn’t do both. We changed that.” Sentera Executive Vice President Greg Emerick said in a press release. “Now, growers and agronomists have that flexibility. They are more in control of their operations, and can make even better decisions, even faster.”

In addition, NVDI Toolbox enables users to recolor, regenerate and highlight areas of an NDVI map interfacing real-time and historical data. Using a “Day-to-Day” mode, farmers can compare field changes over time to pinpoint plant stress areas using multiple data sets. With “Acre-to-Acre” mode, data reveals the overall health of a field from a more global view.

Over the past year, Sentera has planted a “bumper crop” of expanded and fine-tuned ag-drone solutions.

In June, the company launched an add-on to its AgVault 2.0 Mobile app to embrace autonomous drone flight planning for DJI’s Phantom 4, Phantom 3, and Inspire products. Two months earlier, Sentera released an NDVI upgrade for DJI’s Inspire series that allows near-infrared imagery capture to produce NVDI maps.
