DJI Introduces Phantom 4 with Obstacle Avoidance

phantom-4The world’s largest drone manufacturer, DJI, has just released the Phantom 4: a drone loaded with options and new technology, including the ability to avoid obstacles on its own.

Phantom 4 has more of everything – more cameras, sensors, and processing  – but also offers a bigger battery with longer flight time, higher speeds – up to 45 mph in “Sport Mode” – and more features, such as a following function called “ActiveTrack” and a self-navigation tool called “TapFly” which will allow the pilot to choose a location and allow the drone to figure out how to get there on its own.  DJI’s obstacle avoidance technology will not allow the drone to collide with obstacles on its flight path, causing the drone to hover in front of an obstacle rather than crashing into it.

The Phantom 4 retail price starts at $1,300 and will be available for preorder on DJI’s website later today.

DRONELIFE’s Andrew Amato is present at the press event announcing the Phantom 4- more details on DJI’s demonstration to follow on DRONELIFE later today, or as they happen on Twitter @Drone_Life.
