The FAA is imposing a 32 mile no fly zone around Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara where the Super Bowl will be played this year. The restriction is in place from 2 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 7.
“With so many drones being sold for recreational use, we want to do everything we can to get the word out that the game is a No Drone Zone,” said FAA Administrator Michael Huerta. “We’re working closely with our safety and security partners to spread this message as widely as possible.”
So keep you drones at home if you were planning to fly that day. Here is what the 32 mile no fly zone around the stadium looks like.
It may seem a bit onerous. But the FAA is serious. FAA regulations state: “The United States government may use deadly force against the airborne aircraft, if it is determined that the aircraft poses an imminent security threat.”
The FAA produced a promotional video on the ban.
