DJI is continuing its aggressive push into multiple markets. Today it announced a “smart” crop spraying drone, The DJI Agras MG-1, for the agricultural market. DJI claims this drone will:
- load more than 10 kilograms of liquid for crop-spraying
- cover between seven and 10 acres per hour
- be over 40 times more-efficient than manual spraying
- fly up to eight meters per second and adjusts spraying intensity to flying speed, ensuring even coverage.
The eight rotor drone is dustproof, water-resistant and made of anti-corrosive materials. You can easily hose it off after yse and fold it up for easy storage. The Agras MG-1 can be run in “automatic, semi-automatic or manual operation modes, depending on terrain, with uniform spraying carried out via the drone’s nozzles.” It comes with four replaceable, ceramic nozzles, each powered by a motor.

What DJI signals with this release is its clear intention not to be satisfied with the staying in the consumer space. As DJI CEO Frank Wang noted, “The launch of DJI’s agricultural drone displays our unmatched knowledge base and development skills. With this new product, we’ve shown that DJI can not only offer the ultimate aerial experience for the mass consumer, but also improve the efficiency of production and benefit so many others in all walks of life.”
Agriculture is expected to be one of the most lucrative markets for commercial drones.
However, US and European farmers will need to wait. The drone will only be available in China and Korea to start with other countries to follow.
