Video of the Day 8/20/15: Adjusting the Phantom 3’s Gimbal Horizon Level

When a new gadget launches these days, there are always kinks that need to be worked out. Whether this is because technology is more complex than ever and testing everything before the ship date is an impossible task or because our reluctant acceptance of constant software updates has become a safety net for manufacturers to fall back on when they ignore thorough testing, there is always a grace period for getting a gadget to work properly.

One of the most common such imperfections with DJI’s new Phantom 3 drone was the fact that the camera/gimbal wasn’t adjusting to be level with the horizon before takeoff.

In fact, this is an issue we came across when we first reviewed the Phantom 3. It wasn’t a deal breaking bug – errors like this are a quick fix in Photoshop, but it still felt like something so basic should have been ironed out before consumers got their hands on it.

Fortunately, this new video from YouTube user MicBergsma provides a great demonstration on how to adjust the horizon level and then test it to make sure it is perfectly straight:
