Video of the Day 7/4/15: Watch These Videos of Drones Going Through Fireworks, Don’t Make Your Own

Listen, we know drones are, if nothing else, cameras in the sky. So it’s only natural to think, “Oh man! This would be a great way to film a fireworks display today!” You’re not wrong, but do us and every other drone advocate out there a favor and follow this one simple rule: DON’T.

We already had one drone fall out of the sky and hit a person this week and we don’t need another.

Last year a few pilots got away with flying their drones around fireworks (and that is where the videos below come from). But everyone, including police, have become more aware of drones since July 4, 2014 so drone bans for public events have become much more common.

If you really must bring your drone out to see the display, please check with the local authorities and get their blessing first.

Though, if we are being realistic, flying a drone through a fireworks show puts the drone in much more danger than anyone on the ground. It’s incredibly likely your drone could get hit by a firework – ending your flight prematurely and putting you out $1000. Plus, it will be very easy to lose sight of your drone as the LED indicators will blend in with the light from the show.

So please, just leave the drones at home tonight and revel in these videos instead:
