The report states that guidance on the civil operation of drones is being taken from the Air Navigation Service provider, the ministry of defence, the ministry of home affairs, and other security agencies.
Amazon is a notable case as there have been reports, which suggest that the e-retail giant plans to use India as a test bed for its Prime Air service. Prime Air was shown off earlier in the year as a concept, and it uses drones to deliver products to consumers.
In the current legal environment, Amazon cannot test its Prime Air service in the US. Many believe such a service can only work in the US if the regulations are revamped and that could take as long as 5 years.
Last year, a Mumbai based eatery (Pizza joint) delivered food to its consumer using a drone. The eatery in question made a YouTube video of the same. The Mumbai police have also used UAVs or unmanned aerial vehicles or drones in the past.
