In comparison to last week, the week of October 10, 2014 was rather low-key. After the Dronelife team got one of our drones stuck in a tree at a golf course last week, we returned to the scene determined to use our lessons learned to have a successful flight. You can be the judge by checking out our footage here.
In the world of drone news, the biggest stories hit early in the week:
– On Monday, Motherboard released a list of all the companies that have been given permission to fly drones in the U.S. by the FAA. You can see the list in its entirety, which took the FAA 10 months to produce, right here.
– On Tuesday, Parrot subsidiary senseFly announced its latest drone, the eXom. The system boasts an extremely advanced sense and avoid system and an array of onboard cameras so users don’t have to land the drone to switch between HD video and thermal imaging. The eXOm is designed to “allow users to focus on their work, not on flying.”
– On Wednesday, NASA signed a one-year agreement with the Department of the Interior’s U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) to test small UASs for the detection of brush and forest fires. The research is part of the NASA Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate’s UAS Integration in the National Airspace System (NAS) project.
– Also on Wednesday, YouTube user Christopher Schmidt posted one of the best drone-shot videos in recent memory:
