reports that Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have expanded their force with the addition of five Draganflyer X4-P drones. The drones will help with with collision reconstruction, search and rescue, major crimes and officer safety. The drones each cost around $30,000 (Canadian Dollars).
The RCMP have already put a drone to work in providing aerial photos of car accident scenes. “When you have a major collision happen on the highway often there’s multiple cars involved, multiple ways the cars are going in forces. So it’s really great where we can deploy it up in the air, we can get a good aerial shot. Very easy for the collision analyst then to articulate in court or in his report exactly what he believes happened,” said Skinner of the RCMP. Today, many police forces use reconstruction tools such as those provided by Cadzone . The addition of aerial photography following the accident will go a long way to help law enforcement understand the elements of the accident.
