On November 7 – 8, in a small town outside of San Antonio, a group of first responders – maybe you – will compete to be the winner of the first annual First Responder Iron Drone Competition.
The competition, held in the city of Windcrest, Texas, represents the city’s participation in the FAA’s National Drone Safety Awareness Week. National Drone Safety Awareness Week, held this year from November 4-10, is a nationwide educational campaign to promote safe flight in all areas of the drone industry.
Windcrest will host a 2 -day event for state, county and municipal First Responder Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) teams from the Greater San Antonio area and beyond. Following briefings and ground training sessions in the morning, drone flying events will be held in the afternoons. Flying events will include spot-landing competitions, and a search and rescue exercise. The overall best UAS first responder team will be named winner of Windcrest’s First Annual First Responder Iron Drone Competition – and will have gained bragging rights for years to come.
Those interested in attending should contact David Hook, President of Droneport Texas, LLC and an organizer of the event at planehook@hotmail.com (Subject Line: First Responder Iron Drone Competition.)
